For this song, I wanted to bring together a lot of people to help transcend its subject matter. I experienced the aftermath of child death in my family. My baby sibling who was a twin died of SIDS as a newborn. The devastation is impossible to communicate. My wish is to have a transparent dialogue around grief. This song expresses all the chaotic, suffocating feelings grief engulfs us in, not unlike the sensation of drowning. Lullaby for a Child creates a future where my sibling experienced childhood. Lullabies are ancient, soothing, and immortal. After his death, I had a dream where the twins were baptized in a lake, and there was no one else present, yet I understood they were safe. The cover art is reimagining that dream, the twins as elven children who may live forever, even outlive myself.
lyrics
You are but a child,
You are forever innocent
I had a dream of your baptism
Forever in life, Forever in death
I will sing a lullaby for the dying
This is a mourning song for what could have been,
This is a mourning song for the child who's left
